Ilkay Gundogan, who recently moved to Barcelona after leading his former team, Manchester City, to their first-ever UEFA Champions League title, has quickly adapted to the culture of his new club. He openly shared some of his beliefs and preferences, which he held even before becoming a Blaugrana.
During an interview with the Catalunya paper SPORT, Gundogan spoke about the factors and individuals that influenced his decision to choose Barcelona over other interested clubs.
He also didn’t hesitate to reveal his choice for the best midfield three in history. Gundogan, who openly expressed his admiration for the legendary treble-winning Barcelona team, stated according to Goal:
“I remember a moment that I will never forget, which is Ronaldinho’s performance at the Bernabeu, where even the Real Madrid fans applauded him. I really enjoyed watching that.
“Not just Ronaldinho. All of Barca as a team playing that day. That is perhaps the most important moment I remember.
“But I have seen many games in La Liga or in the Champions League where the midfield trio of Busquets, Xavi, and Iniesta, who, for me, were the best in the world, played in an incredible way, and I grew up learning from them.”
Previously, Pengman Sports reported that Ilkay Gundogan has joined La Liga champions, Barcelona, on a free transfer. This move came after he achieved a European treble in his last year at the Etihad Stadium as a player for Manchester City.
Also, Gundogan has ensured his financial security by obtaining a reported £7.7 million insurance policy. This policy will come into effect if Barcelona encounters financial difficulties that prevent him from participating in this season.
To safeguard against such situations, Gundogan’s contract includes a special clause that allows him to leave Barcelona if the club faces any financial issues that prevent them from registering him as a player.
