Moisés Caicedo had his preseason debut for Brighton & Hove Albion last night, playing in their friendly against Brentford just before Chelsea’s friendly against Newcastle.
However, it seems highly unlikely that Caicedo will join Chelsea anytime soon.
Despite several attempts to bid around or below £70m, Chelsea recently increased their offer to £80m this week.
Nevertheless, Brighton promptly rejected this offer, as they are firm on their asking price of £100m.
It appears that unless Chelsea meets this £100m valuation, they won’t be able to secure his transfer. The decisive figure here is £100m.
There is a slim chance that certain factors might alter the situation, such as Caicedo expressing a strong desire to leave and pushing for an exit.
However, currently, he seems content with his situation at Brighton. Considering the approaching start of the season and the team’s lack of defensive midfielders, it might be wise for Chelsea to consider other transfer targets and move on from this pursuit.
