Despite another goal from Erling Haaland and an incredible strike from Demarai Gray, Everton held Manchester City to a painful 1-1 draw.
The most goals by a player before the new year in a Premier League season were scored by Haaland in the 24th minute with his 21st league goal. However, Everton came back strongly with Gray’s looping equalizer in the 64th minute.
City were unable to score, even after more than 11 minutes of extra time were added after one of the match officials encountered technical difficulties in the second half.
Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and Ben Godfrey were both unable to clear their lines as Haaland scored after excellent work from Riyad Mahrez.
But in the 64th minute, Gray scooped up the ball on the halfway line, sprinted forward, and curled a beautiful finish past City goalkeeper Ederson after cutting onto his right. This was an incredible comeback for Everton.
Everton resisted City’s surges in extra time to earn a crucial point against the defending champions.
