French international Marcus Thuram has completed a move to Inter Milan on a free transfer, the Serie A club announced. The 25-year-old, son of 1998 World Cup winner Lilian Thuram, has signed a five-year contract with last season’s Champions League finalists. The deal is reportedly worth 6.5 million euros ($7.1 million) per season.

Thuram joins Inter Milan after an impressive season with Bundesliga side Borussia Moenchengladbach, where he scored 13 goals. Following the conclusion of his contract with Borussia Moenchengladbach, Thuram became a free agent, and Inter Milan successfully secured his services.

In a statement on the club’s website, Inter Milan confirmed Thuram’s arrival, stating, “Marcus Thuram signs for Inter. The forward, who was born in 1997, joins the Nerazzurri following four seasons with Borussia Moenchengladbach.”

Thuram will partner with Lautaro Martinez in Inter Milan’s forward line, replacing Edin Dzeko who recently joined Fenerbahce.

Thuram was born in Parma, where his father enjoyed a successful spell and won the UEFA Cup and Italian Cup in 1999 alongside renowned players like as Gianluigi Buffon and Fabio Cannavaro.

Thuram senior faced Buffon and Cannavaro in the 2006 World Cup final, where France suffered a penalty shootout defeat. Despite his father’s aspirations for him to pursue fencing or judo, Thuram chose a career in football. In the thrilling World Cup final last December, France faced Martinez’s Argentina and suffered a 3-3 draw, eventually losing in a penalty shootout. Thuram contributed to the equalizer that sent the game into extra time.

However, Thuram may face competition for a place in Inter Milan’s starting lineup from Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian striker, currently on loan from Chelsea, is in discussions to extend his stay at the club beyond the end of his loan period.
