Arsenal secured a 2-1 Champions League victory over Sevilla on Tuesday, bouncing back from a shocking defeat at the hands of Lens earlier this month. Gabriel Jesus played a pivotal role, scoring a remarkable goal and creating another, propelling the Gunners to the top of Group B.
Gabriel Jesus orchestrated Arsenal’s opening goal with a superb turn and pass that set up Gabriel Martinelli. He then extended the Gunners’ lead with a lethal finish. Arsenal now stands at six points, one point ahead of Lens, who drew 1-1 against PSV Eindhoven, leveling them with Sevilla at two points.
Sevilla, under the management of Diego Alonso, shown a spirited performance, following their impressive draw against La Liga leaders Real Madrid. However, Arsenal’s cutting edge in attack, led by Gabriel Jesus, made the difference in an intense showdown in Andalusia.
Sevilla boasted their seven Europa League wins but had a four-time Champions League winner in Sergio Ramos marshaling their defense. Ramos held the Arsenal attack at bay for most of the first half.
Arsenal’s goalkeeper, David Raya, who faced scrutiny after mistakes in a recent Premier League draw, remained in the lineup. Sevilla had their moments, with Youssef En-Nesyri narrowly missing a chance just before Arsenal’s opener.
Gabriel Jesus’s brilliant midfield turn and quick pass set up Martinelli’s goal. The Brazilian striker’s composure on his Champions League debut put Arsenal in control.
Sevilla managed to pull one back through Nemanja Gudelj’s header from Ivan Rakitic’s corner, and Raya made a remarkable save to deny Mariano Diaz’s effort. Despite Sevilla’s late efforts, Arsenal held on for the win.
