Tottenham reportedly granted Harry Kane permission to travel to Germany and finalize a move to Bayern Munich.
According to reports, the clubs have agreed on terms for Kane’s transfer to Germany after rejecting previous bids earlier in the summer. An agreement between the clubs now leaves it up to Kane, who is the England captain, to decide whether he will stay at Spurs or accept the offer from the Bundesliga champions.
Kane is about to enter the final year of his contract with Tottenham. This means he could leave for free in a year’s time and start negotiations with other clubs as early as January.
Tottenham’s Chairman, Daniel Levy, is thought to value Kane closer to £120 million. However, the risk of losing the star player for free within a year has been a key factor in negotiations with Bayern.
Sports journalist David Ornstein of The Athletic has reported that Kane has “received approval from Tottenham to complete his proposed transfer to Bayern Munich.”
The fee for the transfer is believed to be €100 million (£86.4 million). Ornstein adds that Kane is set to leave for Germany, where he will undergo medical tests and sign a four-year contract with Bayern.
He is expected to wear the No. 9 shirt, having agreed to join the Bundesliga champions. Earlier in the day, The Athletic reported that Tottenham had accepted an offer from Bayern worth over €100 million (£86.4 million).
Previous reports suggested that Kane was keen on staying in England to pursue Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League scoring record of 260 goals. Kane has scored 213 times in the Premier League since making his debut for Spurs in 2012.
Manchester United had shown interest in Kane earlier in the summer, but they chose to pursue less costly alternatives to stay within their transfer budget.
During a friendly match against Shakhtar Donetsk, Tottenham supporters chanted “we want you to stay,” expressing their desire for Kane to remain at the club. The team’s Premier League campaign begins against Brentford, and Kane reportedly hopes to have his future settled by then.
