Inter Milan CEO Beppe Marotta confirmed that Manchester United are interested in signing Andre Onana from the Serie A side. Marotta stated, “Manchester United expressed a particular interest, but that needs to blossom into making a proposal over the next few days. Once that happens, both Inter and the player will make a careful evaluation.” However, there is no official bid from United at this stage.
Onana joined Inter from Ajax as a free agent last summer, quickly becoming their first-choice goalkeeper. His potential departure could be profit for Inter, who may use the funds to pursue other transfer targets, including Chelsea players Cesar Azpilicueta, Trevoh Chalobah, and Romelu Lukaku.
Manchester United boss, Erik ten Hag, has identified signing a goalkeeper as a priority for the club. He previously worked with Onana at Ajax and admires his ability to play out from the back. Ten Hag’s interest in the goalkeeper has reportedly prompted discussions between United representatives and Onana’s agent, Albert Botines, regarding a proposed £50 million move.
The future of current Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea remains uncertain, as his contract is set to expire soon. There is a possibility that United may re-sign De Gea to address their goalkeeping situation.
Also, Manchester United has considered other goalkeeper options, like Brentford’s David Raya and Anderlecht’s Bart Verbruggen. Financial restrictions may impact United’s ability to make significant signings, as the club is reportedly left with around £65 million for new recruits. They also have a desire to secure Tottenham’s Harry Kane, Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, and Benfica’s Goncalo Ramos being mentioned as potential targets.
