Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that 19-year-old Gabriel Slonina is set to join Belgian side KAS Eupen from Chelsea on a season-long loan agreement. The purpose of this move is to provide Slonina with regular playing time at the Pro League club and allow him to gain experience in European football.
While Chelsea has been in the market for a new goalkeeper, their current priority is to sign a new central midfielder. Brighton has rejected four bids from Chelsea for their primary target, Moises Caicedo.
Given the ongoing pursuit of a midfielder, Chelsea may delay their search for a new goalkeeper until later in the transfer window. They have already permitted Edouard Mendy to depart for Saudi Arabia, leaving Kepa Arrizabalaga as their sole recognized senior goalkeeper.
Marcus Bettinelli and Gabriel Slonina are the remaining options, with Slonina set to leave on loan. Chelsea has their eyes on potential targets like Diogo Costa and Leeds United’s Illan Meslier, with the latter being a more economical option.
Gabriel Slonina’s loan move to KAS Eupen is motivated by the need for him to gain regular playing time and experience in European football. Chelsea sees him as a crucial part of their future plans and fought off interest from Real Madrid to secure his services last season.
Real Madrid was interested in Slonina but only as a backup to Thibaut Courtois and a potential replacement for Andriy Lunin. Chelsea, on the other hand, values him highly and considers him an integral part of their future squads, making a loan move the most likely outcome for this transfer window.
KAS Eupen is on the verge of signing Slonina on a season-long loan deal, and Fabrizio Romano assures that he will get regular playing time there, which will be beneficial for his development and prepare him for future success in the Premier League.
Chelsea is not interested in any bids for Slonina, as they have plans for his future development. However, they cannot afford to keep him as Kepa’s backup this season. Slonina’s role in the future will depend on who becomes the first-choice goalkeeper.
For now, Slonina will spend the upcoming season in Belgium, aiming to solidify his status as one of the rising stars in football. Also, he will be closely monitoring the national team spot, currently occupied by Arsenal star Matt Turner.
