Leeds defender Robin Koch was struck in the head during the team’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday; Koch was permitted to continue, but was subsequently substituted about 20 minutes later. The German defender will miss Liverpool’s meeting at Anfield on Wednesday.

Koch was covered in blood after colliding with McTominay in the 12th minute, but he returned to the pitch with his head bandaged before collapsing again and being replaced in the 31st minute.

According to charity Headway, concussion protocols were not followed when Leeds’ Robin Koch was hit in the head in Sunday’s defeat to Manchester United.

“The injury to Leeds United’s Robin Koch proves again that current concussion standards inside football fail to prioritise player safety,” the PFA said in a statement on Twitter.

“Before returning to play, Robin will adhere to concussion protocols.”

In a message shared on Twitter, German international Koch thanked Leeds’ medical staff “for the good treatment” as he prepares to miss Wednesday’s match at Anfield against Liverpool.
