Liverpool have agreed a British transfer record fee of £110 million for Brighton midfielder Moisés Caicedo.
The 21-year-old Ecuadorian international is set to become the most expensive player in British football history, surpassing the £100 million that Manchester City paid for Jack Grealish last summer.
Caicedo is a highly rated young midfielder who has been on the radar of several top clubs in Europe.
He made his breakthrough at Independiente del Valle in his native Ecuador in 2020, before moving to Brighton in January 2021. He has made 22 appearances for the Seagulls in the Premier League, scoring one goal.
Caicedo is a versatile midfielder who can play in a variety of positions. He is strong in the tackle, but he also has good passing and dribbling skills. He is also a good athlete with a lot of energy.
Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp is a big fan of Caicedo and believes he can be a key player for the club for many years to come. “Moisés is a very talented young player with a lot of potential,” said Klopp.
“He is strong, athletic and technically gifted. He is also a very good learner and I am sure he will be a success at Liverpool.”
Caicedo’s arrival is a major coup for Liverpool, who have been looking to strengthen their midfield in recent months. He is the club’s third signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Darwin Núñez and Fabio Carvalho.
Caicedo is expected to complete his move to Liverpool in the coming days. He will be the most expensive player in the club’s history, but he is also a player with the potential to be a major success.
