The Colombian winger, 25, returned from injury earlier this month and suffered another setback during a mid-season training camp. The player will now have surgery and will be out for several weeks.
Diaz was Liverpool’s best attacking player at the beginning of the season, and the Reds have sorely missed him.
His extended absence may force the Reds to sign another attacker during the January transfer window. According to Fichajes, Liverpool is keeping an eye on Moussa Diaby.
This season, the 23-year-old winger has done exceptionally well for Bayer Leverkusen, with 8 goals and 4 assists across all competitions. The Frenchman could be a valuable addition to Jurgen Klopp’s attacking options, and it will be interesting to see if the Reds can persuade the German club to sell the player to them in January.
Marcus Thuram appears to be on their radar as well. This season, he has performed admirably for Borussia Monchengladbach.
It remains to be seen who steps in as Diaz’s temporary replacement.
Liverpool has had a difficult start to the season and is struggling to break into the top four. They will need to secure Champions League football in order to attract top talent in the summer, and Klopp will need to improve his squad in January in order to qualify for Europe.
Liverpool is also said to be keeping an eye on Mykhaylo Mudryk.
