Manchester City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, remains committed to Manchester City after their remarkable treble-winning season.
Reflecting on their extraordinary season, Guardiola acknowledged the difficulty of winning a treble, saying, “Winning the Treble is so difficult, but it was written in the stars that we would win this season.”
Guardiola also disclosed that he had discussed his future with Manchester City chairman, Khaldoon Al Mubarak. Responding humorously, Guardiola shared, “Please don’t talk to me about going again. My chairman told me the Champions League final is in London next year – and I can’t tell you what I said to him! I am a good manager – thank you Pep – but I can’t win a treble every single year.”
Guardiola has a contract until 2025 and is very clear about his next step. In a recent interview with Sky Sports, he explained that he wants to stay at Manchester City next season. For now, his intention is to continue “regardless of the results” and what happens in the Champions League and FA Cup.
While Guardiola is focused on leading Manchester City to further success, he hasn’t ruled out the possibility of coaching Manchester United in the future. Guardiola has previously shared his admiration for the club and his ambition to manage them someday. For now, however, Guardiola’s immediate goal is to build on their success.
City, after winning the treble, have equaled the achievement of Ferguson’s Manchester United in 1999. Guardiola shared that he received a good luck message from former Manchester United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson, just hours before Manchester City’s victory in the Champions League final. Guardiola added, “I was so happy to get a message from Sir Alex Ferguson on my phone this morning. It touched me.”
