Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur had differing valuations of Harry Kane by approximately £25 million ($32 million; €29.2 million) after a meeting in London on Monday.
The Bundesliga champions previously had a bid of €70 million plus add-ons rejected for the England captain, but the clubs remain in contact.
Bayern Munich’s CEO, Jan-Christian Dreesen, met with Tottenham’s chairman, Daniel Levy, in London earlier this month, although no official offer or price was quoted for Kane.
The 30-year-old returned for Tottenham’s pre-season training on July 12, and his current contract with the club still has a year remaining. Tottenham is hopeful of persuading him to extend his contract.
Bayern Munich is looking for a new forward this summer, and head coach Thomas Tuchel has discussed a potential move with Kane, who is part of Tottenham’s pre-season tour in Australia and Singapore.
Manchester United has shown interest in Kane since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was the manager, and current Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is also an admirer.
In the past, Manchester City explored the possibility of signing Kane, but they later secured a deal for Erling Haaland.
Real Madrid‘s head coach, Carlo Ancelotti, expressed his desire to sign Kane in a key meeting to discuss transfers.
Kane’s contract negotiations with Tottenham were postponed last season as he focused on helping the club return to the Champions League. However, due to a turbulent season, Tottenham finished in eighth place and missed out on European football altogether.
Bayern Munich is highly interested in Kane because he possesses a unique skill set. He is not only a fantastic finisher in the box but also adept at holding the ball and providing quick passes to fast runners, a quality Bayern’s squad thrives on.
Kane’s ability to move into half-spaces during attacking phases and play killer balls between the lines makes him a valuable asset for Tuchel’s possession game. Also, he can function as a traditional target man, holding up the ball for his team’s midfielders to join the attack.
