The 22-year-old Dutch defender has signed a six-year deal with Spurs, keeping him in north London until 2029. He will wear the number 37 shirt.
Van de Ven is a tall and athletic defender who is comfortable playing on the left side of a back three. He is also good on the ball and has a good passing range.
He made his professional debut for Ajax in 2018 and has since gone on to make over 100 appearances for the Dutch club. He also has three caps for the Netherlands national team.
Van de Ven is Spurs’ third signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster. He is expected to compete with Eric Dier, Cristian Romero, and Davinson Sanchez for a place in the starting lineup.
Tottenham manager Antonio Conte said: “Micky is a young, talented defender with a lot of potential. He is strong in the air and good on the ball. He is also a good fit for our style of play.
“I am sure he will be a valuable addition to our squad and I am looking forward to working with him.”
Van de Ven said: “I am very happy to be joining Tottenham Hotspur. It is a great club with a lot of ambition. I am looking forward to working with Antonio Conte and the rest of the team. I can’t wait to get started.”
Tottenham are looking to build on their fourth-place finish in the Premier League last season. They have also qualified for the Champions League for the first time since 2019.
The addition of Van de Ven is a statement of intent from Tottenham. They are clearly looking to strengthen their squad and challenge for silverware in the coming seasons.
